No tsunami threat to PH after 7.2-magnitude quake in Japan - Phivolcs
There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following a 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck near the coast of Honshu, Japan on Saturday, March 20, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said a “major” earthquake with an initial magnitude measured at 7.2 occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 5:09 p.m. Saturday in the Philippines.
The strong quake had a depth of 60 kilometers, the state seismology bureau added.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” Phivolcs said.
“This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” it added.
