5 dead in Corinthian Gardens fire

Five persons were killed in a fire that hit a house at the posh Corinthian Gardens Subdivision in Quezon City before dawn Saturday.

A report from the Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze started past 1 a.m. on the second floor of the two-story house owned by Gilbert Yu and Charito Uy on Castrillo St., Corinthian Gardens Subdivision, Barangay Ugong Norte.

The fire, which reached second alarm, took the lives of five members of the Yu family – Gilbert, 65; Charito, 62; Ryan Yu; Abegail Yu; and Rita Yu, 57.
Three other members of the Yu family were injured in the fire: Cheryl, 27; Richard, 66; and Stephanie, 24.

The fire was declared fire out at 5:25 a.m. Damage from the fire was pegged at P60 million.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
