Army troopers killed an alleged top communist rebel commander in Cagayan Valley region during an encounter in Isabela.
The death of a certain Yuni was only confirmed when soldiers located on Wednesday the area where his cadaver was buried after an encounter on March 15, Monday, in Barangay San Mariano Sur in San Guillermo town.
“During the encounter, the NPA leader was fatally hit and his comrades brought him in Barangay Dingading, San Guillermo, Isabela in an attempt to hide him from the pursuing government troops. The fleeing NPAs buried him in a shallow grave in the hinterlands of the said barangay,” said Maj. Gen Laurence E Mina, commander of 5th Infantry Division.
Quoting a background check, Mina said Yuni was a cadre from Mindanao who was directed by the Central Committee a few years ago to transfer to Region 2 to lead to establish a guerrilla front.
Yuni rose beyond expectation as he was able to accomplish his tasks and figured in various attacks that include the burning of the million-worth heavy equipment and high-end utility vehicles of a mining firm in Isabela in 2015.
He also commanded the hundred-armed terrorist CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army) members that attacked the Maddela Police Station in Quirino on the night of April 29, 2017 where they killed a policeman and seized police firearms and uniforms.
“The death of Alias Yuni is another big blow to the terrorist CPP-NPA. He is the second high-ranking personality of the terrorist CPP-NPA that was killed in a series of encounters that transpired this week,” said Mina.
“These losses will eventually cripple the armed group and eventually weaken the terrorist organization caused by leadership vacuum,” he added.
