CAVITE - The provincial government announced on Thursday (March 18) that Patungan Beach and Patungan Munti in Maragondon are included in the newly-declared restricted zones.

The announcement came a day after Governor Jonvic C. Remulla declared Kaybiang Tunnel in Ternate as a "no-tourism zone."

In a Facebook post, Remulla said closing Patungan Beach Cove to tourists is necessary as there are no lifeguards on duty and there are no sanitary facilities such as toilets and trash bins.

In addition, shops operating in the area don't have business permits or food-handling permits. And due to the lack of designated parking areas, visitors park their vehicles on roadsides.

The local government unit has already deployed Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) operatives to ensure the implementation of the new regulation.

Kaybiang Tunnel, situated 3.3 km away from Patungan Beach, will no longer be open to tourists starting March 19. The Cavite LGU came up with the decision after receiving a slew of complaints regarding heavy traffic flow, the amount of garbage left by visitors, and tourist scuffles in the area.
