Police Col. Gilbert Gorero, chief of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), identified the victim as Jail Insp. Andrew Larupay.

Gorero said the victim was driving a white vehicle while the suspect Sgt. Bjourn Kirby Sanchez Esposo was onboard a truck of the PA 12th Infantry Battalion (IB).

The two vehicles were reportedly trying to race each other. When they reached Bangga Dama in Sta. Barbara, both vehicles stopped and an altercation ensued until Esposo shot Larupay, who was assigned to the BJMP in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Esposo and his companions fled onboard the army truck and was later arrested during a hot pursuit operation.

Gorero said Larupay was killed in a road rage incident.

“This was a result of road rage,” said Gorego, adding that criminal charges will be filed against Esposo and his companions.
