A light magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted Nueva Vizcaya Wednesday afternoon, March 17, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, which struck at 5:58 p.m., originated at 7 kilometers (km) southwest of Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya.
Phivolcs' instruments recorded the earthquake at Intensity II in Baler, Aurora and Intensity I in San Jose, Nueva Ecija and Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
It was followed by a 3.8-magnitude quake at 6:03 p.m., which was traced at 14 km northwest of Ambaguio.
It was felt as a "weak" tremor at Intensity III in Baguio City; Itogon, Benguet; and Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; and as a "slight shaking" at Intensity II in Maria Aurora, Aurora.
Phivolcs said the earthquakes were tectonic in origin, which means the tremors were caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
