Young man tries, but fails to stop father from committing suicide

TACLOBAN CITY – A 21-year-old man tried but failed to prevent his father from committing suicide in their house Sunday in Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.

Initial investigation by Hinundayan police disclosed that Vince rushed to his father, 43-year-old Aris, who was about to drink Malathion, a pesticide that is used to kill bugs, mosquitoes and other insects.

As father and son struggled to get hold of the bottle, Vince’s face got splashed with the pesticide, with Aris eventually getting another chance to ingest the poisonous substance.

Both were rushed to a nearby hospital by concerned citizens where Aris was declared dead on arrival while his son was given medical treatment.

Investigator PSSG Walter Rosaldo said that based on their investigation, family problem may have prompted Vince to take his own life.
