Top pick Munzon ready to make impact at Terrafirma

Joshua Munzon is not only ready to take the mantle vacated by CJ Perez but also make an immediate impact for the Terrafirma Dyip.

His selection as the top overall pick of the PBA Rookie Draft installed Munzon as the new face of the franchise going into the 46th season after the Dyip opted to trade Perez to the San Miguel Beermen in late-January.

“I definitely feel like I’m ready to step in and be a positive influence, whether it’s being a leader or just being what the team needs,” Munzon said in an interview with One Sports’ The Game Monday, March 15.

“I see myself stepping there and contributing,” added Munzon, who will carry his experiences from the ASEAN Basketball League and Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 to the PBA.

The 26-year-old has been regarded for his high-scoring performances beginning in the ABL with the Saigon Heat and Westports Malaysia Dragons during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

He brought that to the PBA D-League during his stint with AMA Online Education in the 2019 First Conference before shifting his focus on the 3x3 scene as one of the Chooks league’s top players and a regular participant in the FIBA 3x3 tourneys.

At Terrafirma, Munzon hopes to continue those exploits and help the team improve from a dismal 1-10 record in last season’s PBA Philippine Cup bubble.
