After his successful recovery against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), San Juan City Mayor Francisco Zamora reported back to his office on Monday (March 15) and immediately ordered the start of the city-wide liquor ban.
Zamora previously tested positive from COVID-19 and went to self-quarantine at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC).
"Effective today po nais kong iannounce sa inyo na magkakaroon na ho tayo ng liquor ban dito sa San Juan so bawal na po ang pag-inom sa mga pampublikong lugar kahit sa mga restaurant, business establishments bawal na po ang pag consume ng alcohol (Effective today, I wish to announce that we're going to have a liquor ban here in San Juan which prohibits the consumption of alcoholic drinks in public places even in restaurants and business establishments)," Zamora said in his public address.
"Lahat ng mga tindahan, mga groceries, effective today ay bawal na po ang pagbebenta ng alak at syempre bawal din ang pagbili ng alak (Effective today, all stores and groceries are prohibited in selling liquor. Of course, the purchase of liquor is also prohibited)," he added.
Zamora also reminded his constituents to be vigilant in following the mandated public safety protocols and adhere to the city's ordinances to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
As of March 13, the city has recorded 237 active COVID-19 cases, 3,827 recoveries, and 106 deaths.
