Malabon passes ordinance prohibiting sale of alcohol, limiting market operations until April

The Malabon City government has passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages and limiting the time of operations of sari-sari stores and market vendors in the city until April in a bid "to combat the recent increase" in the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Metro Manila.

Under Ordinance No. 06-2021, all home-based micro retail stores as well as market, hawker, and ambulant vendors will not be allowed to open or sell goods during the curfew hours of 10:01 p.m. to 4:59 a.m., from March 15 to April 3, 2021.

Only the fish port located in Barangay Tañong will be allowed to operate "provided that bagsakan or delivery operations may continue," the ordinance read.

"In any case, social distancing of at least one meter and other minimum health standards as provided under previous guidelines must be strictly observed," it added.

According to the measure, each market, talipapa and temporary vending site also "should have separate one-way entrances and exits to reduce mingling of customers." Aside from it, swimming pools in village clubhouses and private pools which are used as mini-restors as well as gyms, spas, and internet cafes shall be closed.

Violators of the measure shall be meted with P1,000, P2,000, and P5,000 for their first, second, and third and subsequent offense, respectively.
