DepEd's first virtual INSET draws mixed reactions from netizens
For the first time, the Department of Education (DepEd) has decided to hold a virtual In-Service Training (INSET) for public school teachers nationwide amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country.
The INSET week for School Year (SY) 2020-2021 is scheduled from March 15 to 19, 2021.
A professional development program, INSET is conducted annually for teachers and staff of DepEd to help them update their knowledge, skills and competencies.
However, the conduct of the virtual INSET has drawn mixed reactions from netizens who pointed out various issues - from schedule, work load and content - among others.
Twitter user with handle @maryyy_dellosa said: “Seminar ng department sa umaga, national INSET sa hapon. May DCYM pa mamaya. Ihhhh talagang sulit ang maghapon at gabi.”
@slynrm31 added: “saglit lang mga freny iidlip lang ako. masyadong maraming ganap ngayon. inset, grades, modules, mga chat HAHA naduduling nako.”
Some users also pointed out that the conduct of the virtual INSET added up to the already heavy workload that teachers have.
@VictoNoona said: “INSET, Computation of grades, Quarterly reports, Distribution of modules - Public Teachers life” while @krischun13 posted: INSET/Webinar. Ang pinakakailangan ko ay yung pahinga. Alam niyo DepEd? PAHINGA!!!!!!”
@rndyvibe noted the “group activity: grabe ka haggard na INSET” while @_moonbread126 said: “i dont think ill survive this whole day inset saket sa bangs.”
There were also users who were “confused” during the conduct of the virtual INSET. @jclynmnbt14 said: “Hindi ko alam kung saang INSET ako makikinig. May national may local. Ang gulo gulo” while @bieyondmeasures: “gulo ng INSET na ito ah umay talaga.” Some users also expressed frustration on technical issues. @ed_angelo said: “Nahihirapan aq magcheck habang asa inset!!!” while @cjamespoaq added: “Ung nasiraan k ng laptop hang nasa INSET..” @reinngerr also pointed out: “Jusq naman, pag register pa lang sobrang stress na ako sa INSET na to. Mana pang INSET na lang sa school. Deped why?”
While majority of reactions were on issues and other glitches, there are users who took it easy.
User with handle @banitaaah said: “Ang gu-gwapo nman ng mga Teacher sa Virtual INSET” while @wayne_angelo noted: “After cleaning at magdilig ng mga tanim, check muna ulit ng modules bago mag inset mamaya. busy week ahead.”
Since the virtual INSET can be taken asynchronously, there were also those who chose their personal preferences like @maelamargaritte who said: “May inset tapos nag-notify ‘yong Vlive na BTS: Live. Ah ah! Alin uunahin ko? Syempre, BTS. Rewatch ko na lang ‘yong inset.”
