BI padlocks main office for disinfection; find out when it will reopen
By Jun Ramirez
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) closed its main office in Intramuros, Manila on Monday, March 15, to give way to a two-day disinfection of the building amid the upsurge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Metro Manila.

In an advisory, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said transactions at the bureau’s main office would be temporarily suspended during the two-day period as he ordered a “thorough sanitation and disinfection” of the entire building and its premises.
BI officials and employees were also ordered to stay home, although a skeletal force of personnel will still be on duty to man the agency’s 24/7 offices rendering critical support services.
Morente advised the transacting public to instead conduct business at other BI offices in Metro Manila, such as the BI SM North and BI SM Aura satellite offices.
Persons with confirmed schedules via the bureau’s online appointment system for Monday and Tuesday were advised to reschedule their appointments when operations at the main office resume on Wednesday.
Morente urged the public to always check the bureau’s website at www.immigration.gov.ph and its social media accounts for the list of BI offices, as well as further announcements and advisories.
