Ex-VP Binay prays for COVID-stricken PNP Chief; wants him to respect value of life after recovery

Former Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay is praying for Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas’s speedy recovery from COVID-19.

On Thursday (March 11), Sinas announced that he has contracted the disease.

“I sincerely hope and pray that General Sinas will recover from COVID-19,” Binay said in a statement on Friday (March 12).

“And when he does, I also pray he will have a deeper respect for the value of life, and why these senseless killings done by the PNP should stop,” he added.

The former vice president was referring to the recent controversial killings involving policemen.

On March 7, nine activists were killed as police and military forces conducted a series of raids on the offices and houses of leaders and members of groups being linked to the communist rebels in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Batangas.

Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino, 58, was shot dead in an encounter between the mayor’s camp and policemen on March 8. Authorities are still probing whether it was a shootout or ambush.

The said killings involving the police force have been denounced by various groups and public personalities who expressed alarm over the “bloody” operations of the PNP.
