CEBU CITY – A private hospital will donate COVID-19 vaccines to the city government of Mandaue.
Candice Gotianuy, president of the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed), said Wednesday they will donate to Mandaue half of the COVID-19 vaccines they ordered from British drugmaker AstraZeneca.
“We are donating half of AstraZeneca that we ordered to the frontline workers of the government, to the public sector,” said Gotianuy. “That is our way of helping the economy grow and our country to move forward,” she added.
Gotianuy made the pledge during UCMed’s ceremonial COVID-19 vaccination drive Wednesday where at least 50 medical workers were vaccinated.
Gotianuy said UCMed actually ordered four brands of COVID-19 vaccines for their medical frontliners – CoronaVac, Moderna, Novovax, and AstraZeneca.
UCMed was the first hospital in Mandaue to start its vaccination drive for its healthcare workers. UCMed received 1,230 doses of CoronaVac from the national government.
