VP Leni as mom and chef: Robredo's chicken pastel for daughters

It turns out that Vice President Leni Robredo holds more than just the second-highest seat in the country. She's also the queen of her home’s kitchen.

One of her three daughters, Aika, posted on social media that the vice president decided to devote her Sunday afternoon preparing and cooking chicken pastel for them.

This was a tradition they started last year during the lockdown.

“Since last year, we’ve been taking turns cooking dinner for the household. It was Mama’s turn today. Because she knew she wasn’t going to have enough time to cook because of work, she spent her Sunday afternoon making chicken pastel (!!) that we can enjoy tonight,” Aika said.

“She wears many hats and is one of the busiest I know, but mothering is still what she does best (heart emoji),” she added.

Robredo earlier said she went back to cooking for her daughters during the lockdown since she’s home at around 6 PM every day. She used to cook back in their hometown of Naga City before she joined Congress and later became vice president.

But because of her busy schedule, she has to make time to prepare meals for her daughters. Last weekend, though she was not scheduled to prepare for Sunday’s meals, she spent the entire afternoon doing it anyway because Mondays are always busy.

Aika decided to share their family bonding activity because she thought “this was appropriate for international woman’s day!”

“Here’s to women everywhere who push and inspire us to become the best versions of ourselves — may we always recognize strength in kindness, restraint and compassion. #IWD2021,” she wrote.

Aika shared that they got the chicken pastel, a hearty stew made with chicken meat, mushrooms, peas, and carrots in a rich and creamy sauce, recipe from watching actress Marjorie Barretto’s cooking vlog.

“We are fans of her cooking vlog!,” she gushed.
