Parañaque's health office chief gets first AstraZeneca shot in PH

Parañaque's City Health Office Chief Dr. Olga Virtusio became the first person to be inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in the Philippines on Saturday (March 6).

Aside from Virtusio, senior citizen health workers in Parañaque City also received the first jabs of United Kingdom made AstraZeneca vaccine at the Ospital ng Parañaque II.

“I don’t feel anything,” Virtusio told reporters.

“Actually being the head of our City Health Office in Parañaque City I think that prompted me to lead my staff to really show the people na (that) this is a very safe vaccine,” she added.

Virtusio went on to say that she feels good and would even go mountain climbing on Sunday. In three months, she will be receiving her second dose.

“I’m so happy na ako ang unang nakatikim ng (that I was the first to get a shot of the) AstraZeneca vaccine. I’m very proud, I’m happy that Parañaque received the first-ever AztraZeneca vaccine in the country,” the city health office chief said.

Virtusio mentioned that she was actually willing to be vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine but her staff did not allow her to.

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, for his part, said the city aims to inoculate 3,800 of its private and public health workers.
