VP Leni scores pro-Marcos cheating claim despite court victory
Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday slammed a pro-Marcos Facebook page alleging that she cheated former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in the 2016 vice presidential polls.
The vice president is also seeking the help of the public in reporting these false claims.
“Please help us report. After losing 3x, the final one at the Supreme Court no less, BBM narrative that he was cheated is still being pushed,” she said in a Facebook post.
Robredo shared a screenshot of the Facebook page Showbiz Fanaticz claiming she cheated Marcos five years ago.
Written in all caps, the post said: “Just in: VP Leni, ikinakahiya ng mga kababayan sa Bicol, matapos ang pandaraya kay BBM (Just in: Fellow Bicolanos are embarrassed by VP Leni for cheating BBM last election).”
Robredo has been the victim of false claims and vicious attacks on the social media since she was proclaimed winner in 2016.
The Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), decision dismissing Marcos’ electoral protest because of lack of merit is apparently not enough for the former senator’s supporters to stop harassing the vice president.
On February 16, the PET voted unanimously to junk Marcos’ electoral protest. The Marcos camp hinted that the decision was not yet final because the tribunal only junked one part of the protest. The SC then clarified that the whole petition has been dismissed.
During the recount of the votes in three provinces in 2019, Robredo even gained a further advantage of 15,000 votes over Marcos, the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
