MRT-3 beefs up running coaches with nine newly-overhauled LRVs

Nine light rail vehicles (LRVs) that have recently completed general overhaul have been added to the fleet of running coaches of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).Â

This brings the total number of running and operational LRVs to 66, the MRT-3 management said in a statement on Monday, March 1.

According to the MRT-3, these additional trains are expected to help the rail line ferry more passengers amid the limited capacity being imposed in all modes of public transportÂ due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

At present, the MRT-3 is allowed a maximum passenger capacity of 30 percent or at least 372 riders per train set in line with the guidelines set by the government's pandemic task force.

The general overhauling of the MRT-3's LRVs is part of the railway's maintenance works being provided by the line's maintenance provider, Japan-basedÂ Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
