Velasco lauds signing of COVID-19 vaccination law


          Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Saturday thanked President Duterte for swiftly signing into law yesterday the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Act.

         Velasco,  in a statement, said: "This landmark legislation was designed to fast-track the procurement and administration of the life-saving vaccine against the deadly coronavirus to a greater number of Filipinos."

         ‘’The importance of an effective and efficient COVID-19 vaccination program in fighting the ill-effects of this pandemic cannot be overstated,’’ he added.

        Velasco further said that with the new law, "the Philippines would now be in a better position to defeat the virus and protect the health of its 110 million people."

         ‘’As we move closer to the vaccine, which is our best hope to attain herd immunity, we can all look forward to engaging in more activities and reviving our battered economy," he said.

         Duterte signed on Friday, February 26, the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act, which aims to expedite the procurement of coronavirus vaccines. It also includes an indemnification fund of least P500 million due to the request of vaccine makers.
