Gov. Ayong Maliksi, a committed public servant --- Panelo


Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo has paid tribute to the life and service of the late Cavite Governor Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi, remembering him as a committed public servant who was loved much by the people he served.

Maliksi, who was also a former representative of Cavite's second district, passed away Wednesday at the age of 82. He previously served as chairman of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

"We express our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones, as well as the supporters, of Erineo ‘Ayong’ S. Maliksi," he said in a statement Saturday, Feb. 27.

"Gov. Ayong was a committed public servant who was well-loved by Caviteños," he said.

Panelo remembered the long record in public service of Maliksi, who was was elected vice mayor and later mayor of his hometown Imus during the 80s and up until the late 90s. 

He said Maliksi then served governor of Cavite for three terms from 2001 to 2010. He also represented its second and third districts in the House of Representatives.

"As we join our countrymen, particularly his constituents in Cavite, in honoring and paying tribute to the life and service of Gov. Maliksi, we pray that his soul may rest in peace and that the perpetual light may shine upon him," Panelo said.
