San Juan City's road clearing gets perfect grade from MMDA

The San Juan City government was given a perfect grade by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos Jr. for its obstruction-free roads and sidewalks.

In November 2020, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered the resumption of nationwide road-clearing operations after it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The MMDA chairman inspected on Friday (February 26) the roads and sidewalks of San Juan to check if the city has adhered to the DILG’s order.

"Kita niyo naman lahat ng inikutan namin pati ‘yung mga tricyle na mahirap talaga gawin, nagawa na po ni Mayor Zamora, so para sa akin 100 percent (As you can see all that we've inspected even the tricycles that are difficult to do has already been done by Mayor Zamora. So for me, I give it 100 percent), initial assessment 100 percent,” said Abalos.

Abalos was referring to the centralized tricycle hailing system wherein tricycles no longer need to wait for passengers along the roads and instead, pickup points have been set up where officials will just call tricycles via radio to pick up passengers.

Last year, San Juan City got a 100 percent compliance score from the DILG for its road clearing drive.

“San Juan City is in the heart of Metro Manila. Our streets are being used by people in going about their businesses in the capital. A 100 percent compliance is our target but our main goal is to alleviate the sufferings of our kababayans plying the streets of the Metro,” the mayor said.
