Prior to making it big in show business, Coco Martin drove a tricycle to earn extra cash.

He started doing so at 16.

No, he didn't buy it himself.

It was a loaner from his lola.

“Noong matuto akong mag-motor, ipinasada ko na ang tricycle ng lola ko pang tulong sa pamilya, at pambaon ko sa eskuwela,” Coco said in an interview.

It was only after he started doing indie films that Coco was able to save enough to buy his own motorcycle.

His first one wasn't really special he said, but it served its purpose.

He related, "125cc lang, underbone...nung nag-college ako ‘yun ang ride ko. Sine-set-up ko, binibihisan, at pinanliligaw.”

He experienced several mishaps along the way but it didn't deter him.

“Bata pa kasi ako nun, so medyo reckless ako magmaneho at sumemplang na din ako ng ilang beses,” he said.

He has since undergone proper training.

“Base sa mga kamalian ko noon, naisip ko nga na kailangan mo talagang dumaan sa training, kasi hindi basta-basta ang paggamit ng motor. Maaring sa isang iglap may mangyari sa iyo na hindi maganda, kaya better talaga na mag-training ka, para maiwasan yung mga aksidente.”

Coco's love for two-wheeled speed demons continues to this day.

In fact, he already has 11 high-end motorcycles in his collection.

His first-ever big bike? A red Ducati courtesy of Dawn Zulueta and husband Anton Lagdameo.

He shared, "Basta binigay nila siguro dahil nakita niya na very supportive talaga ako sa family nila."

Coco's love for motorcycles has spilled to his film and TV work.

“Kung mapapansin nyo, lagi akong gumagamit ng motorsiklo pag gumagawa ako ng mga pelikula at soap opera kasi isa yun sa mga trademark ko eh, at isa yun sa mga passion ko kaya pinapakita ko ‘to sa mga pelikula,” Coco said.

He sees himself riding motorcycles till he gets old.

“Masarap po sa pakiramdam yung mag-bike ka at magpunta sa mga lugar na tahimik para makapag-relax,” he related.
