K-pop boy band EXO member Chanyeol will be starting his military service next month.

The 28-year-old star will be enlisting as an active duty soldier on March 29, according to Korean media and confirmed by his agency, SM Entertainment.

“Chanyeol is enlisting in the active duty on March 29. The location and time of enlistment will not be disclosed and there will be no separate event,” the agency said.

He will be the fifth member of EXO to fulfill military service after Xiumin, D.O, Suho and Chen, a mandatory duty for all able-bodied Korean men.

The announcement came four months after Chanyeol became embroiled in a controversy over his former girlfriend who accused him on cheating on her.

She claimed that in the three years they were together, Chanyeol cheated on her by sleeping with other women including a K-pop girl group member, YouTuber, broadcast jockey, dancer and flight attendant.

According to her, she heard Chanyeol cheated on her with at least 10 people. “I wish people in the world knew how bad you are. Don't contact me,” she said.

SM Entertainment said it had “no official position” on the issue about Chanyeol and his former girlfriend.

The EXO Gallery on the Korean website DC Inside issued its official position on Oct. 29 to say they want Chanyeol to quit EXO.

On Feb. 24, Chanyeol posted a letter for fans, saying, "I reflected on how I will not cause you worry again. I will do my best to make it clear that you were not wrong to believe in me," SBS News reported.
