PDEA says agents on legitimate operation when shooting erupted near QC mall

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday night said their agents were conducting a “legitimate” operation near a mall on Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City when a police encounter transpired.

PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said in a Viber message that their Special Enforcement Service team were in the area “on a legitimate operation” when a shooting incident happened. However, he asked the public to allow them more “time to obtain clear details.”

This came after police confirmed an encounter between members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and several armed men at around 6 p.m. following a buy-bust operation.

It is not yet clear if the encounter was between the police and PDEA agents.

In a Tweet, Philippine Red Cross chairman and Senator Dick Gordon said two police officers were reported wounded.
