Manila LGU tops immunization activity against measles-rubella in NCR

The Manila City government was the top performing Local Government Unit (LGU) for measles-rubella immunization for children in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday (Feb. 23) hailed the City of Manila as one of the eight top performing cities nationwide in the month-long Measles, Rubella, and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA). 

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso thanked the Manila Health Department (MHD) for vaccinating 95 percent of its target as of Feb. 19. The immunization drive was launched on Feb. 1.

"Congratulations to our Manila Health Department (@HealthManila) family! Top-performing LGU po ang Manila City sa measles-rubella oral polio vaccine supplemental immunization activity!" Domagoso wrote in a tweet on Tuesday (Feb. 23).

The country's health department also expressed its gratitude for the LGUs' performance in the vaccination drive for measles-rubella and polio.

"Despite these challenges, the Department of Health is grateful that many of our LGUs are performing well in the MR-OPV SIA," the DOH said in a statement.

The top-performing LGUs in other regions were Aurora, Gapan City, San Jose City, San Jose Del Monte City for Central Luzon; Tagaytay City and Trece Martires City for CALABARZON.

The health department also recognized other cities and provinces for achieving 80 percent accomplishment of the MR-OPV SIA.

These included Navotas City for NCR; Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Angeles City, Balanga City, Cabanatuan City, City of San Fernando, Mabalacat City, Meycauayan, Olongapo, Palayan City, and Tarlac City for Central Luzon; Cavite, Laguna, Biñan City, Calamba City, General Trias City, Santa Rosa City for CALABARZON; Capiz and Iloilo for Western Visayas.
