The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated on Sunday, Feb. 21 at least 325 residents in Tuburan, Cebu as a precautionary measure from the onslaught of tropical depression “Auring.”
The Coast Guard, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Tuburan, successfully carried out the evacuation.
The evacuated residents of Barangay Punta, Tuburan, Cebu were taken to the Cebu Technological University Gymnasium which serves as an evacuation center, under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD).
On Friday, Feb. 19, the PCG issued advisories to fishermen, ship crew, and other maritime stakeholders in the affected areas to remind them of the “no sail policy” during the inclement weather.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the tropical depression “Auring” may initially make landfall over Eastern Samar in the next six to 12 hours as a tropical depression or low pressure area.
