Filipino food is 10th most popular cuisine on Instagram

Filipino food is the 10th most popular cuisine on Instagram, according to a research conducted by Chef's Pencil.

"Instagram is not only the place to showcase food, food is the most photographed subject you'll find there. The top food hashtags of 2020 were #Food, #FoodPorn, #Yummy, #Foodie, and #Delicious," international foodie magazine Chef's Pencil said on its website.

It added that Instagram is "the place to be" to showcase food, because #food along accounted for 430 million Instagram posts as of February 2021.

Chef's Pencil analyzed Instagram tags around the world and found the top 15 most popular cuisines.

Japanese food topped the list, followed by Italian food, Indian food, Korean food, and Thai food at second, third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

Also among the top 10 are Mexican food (6th), Chinese food (7th), Indonesian food (8th), Vietnamese food (9th), and Filipino food (10th).

French food, Greek food, Peruvian food, Spanish food, and Turkish food ranked 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th, respectively.

Based on a survey conducted by Chef's Pencil among 250 chefs, Filipino cuisine is also among the world's five most underrated foodie destinations, along with other Southeast Asian countries Vietnam and Thailand.

"Asian food has gained a reputation for being healthier than Western food. Health-conscious Millennials and Gen Zs love to take to Instagram to brag about their healthy food choices, which not only looks great, but also makes them look better and healthier," Chef's Pencil noted.

The magazine also underscored Instagram's influence is in driving culinary trends worldwide.

"t's a platform for inspiration for tonight's dinner, a place to discover the best new burger joint in town, find upscale dining destinations or be wowed by the most crazy and creative food styling," it added.
