Pacquiao got nothing else to prove, says Mikey Garcia

Welterweight contender Mikey Garcia believes that Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has nothing else left to prove in the ring.

For Garcia, the 42-year-old Pacquiao has all the right to decide who to fight for his comeback bout given an impressive resume after taking down top guns in different divisions.

"It's kinda telling me that Manny is looking for a low-risk, high-reward type of fight. And he honestly earned to call shots cos he's done it all in boxing," Garcia told Little Giant Boxing.

"There's nothing else for him to prove or claim. Or y'know, everybody -- he's boxed everybody, he fought everybody and beat everybody. So if he wants to go out, retire on a big event… so be it, he earned that f______ right."

But Garcia, 33, reiterated that if Pacquiao is looking for a "real and challenging" fight, then he should be eyeing for active welterweight boxers and not mixed martial arts fighters, an obvious remark concerning UFC star Conor McGregor.

The likes of McGregor, Ryan Garcia, the interim WBC lightweight champion, Errol Spence Jr., the unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion, and WBO welterweight king Terence Crawford were among the names projected to face Pacquiao.

Garcia, Spence, and Crawford are all undefeated boxers.

That said, the older Garcia doesn't like to be left out of the picture just yet.

"Everybody would love to fight Pacquiao, just like when everybody would love to fight Mayweather. Is it gonna happen? I don't know."

Garcia (40-1, 30 KOs), who last saw action in February last year, scored a unanimous decision win against Pacquiao's former opponent Jessie Vargas.

The Filipino boxer-turned-senator, for his part, has not fought since beating Keith Thurman for a split decision victory last July 2019 to improve at 62-7-2 record.
