'Life going back to normal': VP says Naga City posts zero COVID-19 cases

Life in Naga City is almost back to normal as the city has had zero transmission of COVID-19 for days, Vice President Leni Robredo said of her hometown on Sunday.

Speaking on her weekly radio show, the vice president shared that there have been no cases of virus transmission in Naga City “for quite some time."

“Maayos ‘yung pagtatakbo ng COVID response (Their COVID response is efficient),” she said, adding that the whole province of Camarines Sur has a low number of new COVID-19 cases. 

Although there was a spike for some months last year when locally stranded individuals first started coming home, Robredo said the province was able to control immediately the spread of the virus.

She admitted that many have complained about the impact of COVID-19 on their livelihood but in general, life is a bit more normal in Naga City. 

Robredo also shared that people have returned to malls and restaurants, but continued to follow health and safety protocols such required occupancy. 

“It is better here, life is more normal. Normal because there is no transmission. Social distancing, they are still following. The limit on the number of people, they are still following it. Everyone is still wearing masks but it is more normal because the people are more confident,” she said in Filipino.

Robredo was in Naga City over the weekend to commemorate the first year death anniversary of her mother, and to participate as well in the Naga City People’s Council.

“Ang saya dito sa Naga (It’s fun here in Naga),” she said, hailing the city’s contract tracing mechanism that is done through an app. Robredo added that through the city’s efficient COVID-19 response, life is slowly going back to normal.
