1,633 persons flee 'Auring' in Leyte, Southern Leyte


TACLOBAN CITY -- Hundreds of families or 1,633 individuals have evacuated in Leyte and Southern Leyte due to tropical storm "Auring" (internarional name "Dujuan") Sunday.

In the island town of Limasawa, over a dozen  locally stranded individuals (LSIs) were evacuated from quarantine facilities except in Barangay Cabulihan due to flooding and heavy rains.

A total of 2,154 individuals, 781 rolling cargoes, six vessels, and 12 vessels were stranded in five ports in Eastern Visayas. 

The Philippine Coast Guard has canceled all sea trips due to the tropical cyclone warning signals hoisted in Eastern Visayas. 

Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Lord Byron Torrecarion said flooding was also reported in Bontoc, Southern Leyte in the boundary between Barangays Malibago and Baugo.

Heavy rains have started pouring in Maasin City as Auring slowly moves northwestwest. It is expected to pass Southern Leyte Sunday night or early morning Monday.
