PCG units in areas threatened by 'Auring' now on heightened alert
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) placed on Friday, February 19, its units in Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Visayas, and Southern Luzon on heightened alert to ensure preparedness for possible flooding and landslides due to tropical storm “Auring.”

The PCG said its vessels, air assets, and land mobility from the headquarters and major units are on standby for possible augmentation deployment in case of evacuation and rescue operations.
“Directive has been issued for all Coast Guard units situated in areas that will be directly affected by Typhoon Auring to intensify precautionary measures. This is to uphold ‘zero maritime incident’ and conduct proactive disaster response operations,” the PCG said in a statement.
The PCG also issued advisories to fishermen, ship crew, and other maritime stakeholders in the affected areas to remind them of the “no sail policy” during the inclement weather.
Areas in Mindanao were placed under a tropical cyclone wind signal warning as “Auring” remained almost stationary over the Philippine Sea.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Auring” is still forecasted to make landfall over the eastern coast of the Caraga Region on Sunday, February 21, and may further intensify into a severe tropical storm in the next 48 hours.
