Cauliflower, baguio beans, chili peppers harvested from Manila Boystown farm, garden

Several kilograms of vegetables were harvested from the Manila Boystown Complex organic farm and urban garden in Marikina.

In a Facebook post, Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said 45 cauliflower were harvested from the facility's organic farm.

Meanwhile, two kilos of baguio beans and a kilo of green chili peppers were harvested from the Manila Boystown Complex urban garden.

Domagoso said the vegetables will be cooked for the senior citizens and children sheltered in the facility.

The Manila Boystown Complex is an institution owned by the Manila city government that shelters senior citizens, orphaned children, and street dwellers.

The Manila city government began converting vacant lots in the facility into organic farms and urban gardens in July, 2020.

Aside from this, the city government also converted the horseback riding area of the Manila Zoo into an organic farm.

This was done in a bid to make the zoo sustainable as it remains closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In November 2020, the football field of St. John Bosco Parish in Tondo was also converted into a vegetable garden.

The project was a partnership among church officials, the Manila city government, the Department of Agrarian Reform, and the Department of Agriculture.
