BUTUAN CITY – All rescue teams of different Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region are gearing up for "Auring" Friday, February 19, which has already developed into a tropical storm.
Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 is raised over several provinces and cities in the region as early as Friday morning.
The command and action center of the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) now closely monitoring all DRRMCs spread in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga region, awaiting any development from their different areas.
The regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here also in full preparation of family food packs for local government units (LGUs) immediate assistance.
On Friday morning, the provincial, city and municipal level disaster response groups (PCMDRRGs) have already activated their respective operation centers and prepared the essential equipment and other life-saving devices.
Emergency hotline numbers have also been posted in the social media accounts of local and provincial disaster response agencies in the region and disseminated on other platforms to raise public awareness.
Rescue teams of Agusan del Sur PDRRMO have started their evacuation of some families residing along the flood prone and landslide areas, particularly those residents living along the side of giant Agusan river.
in Surigao del Norte and Surigao City, Gov. Francisco T. Matugas and Mayor Estong Matugas, respectively said they already instructed on Thursday all the barangay and municipal DRRMC action officers to activate their respective rescue teams in preparation of typhoon ‘Auring’.
“We need to be prepared as early as Thursday as the typhoon is threatening to hit our area,” Gov. Matugas said, in a phone interview.
In Siargao Island, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ordered on Thursday the temporary suspension of trips of all vessels and watercraft with 20 gross tonnage and below from going out of the island.
The temporary suspension came after the strong to gale force winds that was associated with the northeast monsoon's surge.
All rescue teams of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte PDRRMC, MDRRMCs are already mobilized for immediate assistance to residents, in anticipation of landfall of typhoon ‘Auring’.
Meanwhile, the Port Management Office of Agusan also announced the cancellation of M/V Lady of Triumph's voyage on Sunday, February 21 from the Port of Masao here to Cebu.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said typhoon ‘Auring’ is likely to affect the weather conditions in the area.
On the part of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Caraga Regional Director Engr. Pol M. Delos Santos said they have mobilized all disaster teams, from regional down to different District Engineering Offices (DEOs) spread all over the region, in an effort to immediately clear all debris along the roads brought about the typhoon.
“Kinakailangan ang ekonomya ay hindi maabala at kinakailangan ay malinis kaagad ang daanan ng commuting public,” said Director Delos Santos, in an interview with The Manila Bulletin.
