Be wary of fake PDEA agents, public told

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) warned the public Friday, Feb. 19 against fake PDEA agents who conduct illegal arrests and other unlawful operations.

PDEA Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva issued the warning on the heels of the killing of two suspects belonging to the same PDEA uniform-clad crime syndicate that was caught in a CCTV footage in Ususan, Taguig City on Feb. 4, 2018.

He noted that this is not the first time that unlawful groups have “usurped the identity of PDEA to perpetrate illegal activities."

He stressed that the unauthorized wearing of PDEA uniforms or insignia is punishable under the Revised Penal Code.

Villanueva emphasized that PDEA agents adhere to standard operating procedures in conducting legitimate anti-drug operations. 

“Our operations are always coordinated with the local police and the conduct of search operations are always armed with search warrants issued by court,” Villanueva said.

“I encourage the public to be vigilant and report to PDEA any similar incidents involving suspicious individuals masquerading as PDEA agents,” he added.

The PDEA chief said the public may report such illegal activities to “Isumbong Mo Kay Wilkins (Report it to Wilkins)’’ facebook page or through PDEA’s hotline numbers 0995-354-70-20 and 0931-027-82-12.
