The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has downgraded the status of weather disturbance “Auring” to tropical storm after it weakened on Friday. Feb. 19, afternoon.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said "Auring" weakened into tropical storm category at 2 p.m. Friday, but it noted that the storm may re-intensify into severe tropical storm before landfall.
“However, further intensification into a typhoon within the forecast period remains less likely as of this time. "Auring" will likely weaken while crossing the archipelago due to significant terrain interaction and dry air intrusion from the Northeast Monsoon,” said PAGASA.
"Auring" was last spotted at 415 kilometers (km) East Southeast of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph while moving West at a speed of 15 kph.
Earlier on Friday, "Auring" intensified into a severe tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph while moving southwest slowly.
The state weather agency said "Auring" is forecast to make landfall
over the eastern coast of Caraga Region on Sunday morning, Feb. 21.
Senior weather specialist Chris Perez said "Auring’s" radius was last measured at about 300 kilometers, and its edges have started to hit the eastern portion of Mindanao.
As "Auring" moves towards the country’s landmass, the agency has placed more areas under tropical cyclone wind signal warning.
The following areas are currently under signal number 1:
Southern Leyte,
Southeastern portion of Eastern Samar (Guiuan including Homonhon Island),
Dinagat Islands,

PAGASA said Auring will move generally westward over the next 12 hours before turning northwestward tomorrow morning while accelerating.
On the forecast track, the storm will likely follow a generally northwestward path as it traverses Caraga Region, Visayas, and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) region on Sunday and Monday.
