UP SPECA apologizes to Juan Miguel Severo after 'hostile' messages
The University of the Philippines Speech Communication Association (UP SPECA) has apologized to screenwriter Juan Miguez Severo over "hostile" messages posted by one of their members.

On February 12, UP SPECA sent Severo an invitation to serve as a resource person for its upcoming symposium.
A member of UP SPECA, who was assigned to contact Severo, posted on Twitter a private conversation with Severo, captioning it with "Plastikan muna" (Just faking).
Based on the screenshots, the student claimed that they "high-key hate" Severo who was invited to their roundtable discussion.
"It was truly an offensive and unprofessional gesture, unbecoming of the principles UP SPECA strives to embody," UP SPECA said in a statement released late Wednesday, Feb. 17.
"We recognize that this has caused anger and dismay to Mx. Severo and the rest of the online community," it furthered.
UP SPECA clarified that the views cited by its member "do not reflect the entirety of the organization."
"We do not, in any way, condone the culture of unprofessionalism, hate, and irresponsibility within our organization," it added.
UP SPECA assured that it is taking the necessary steps to hold the concerned member accountable to avoid any similar incidents happening in the future.
On Wednesday, Severo called out UP SPECA over disrespect to the speaking engagement invite.
"Huwag ganito, guys. May mga trabaho ang taong paglalaanan kayo ng oras na hiningi ninyo. Huwag na lang ninyong imbitahin (Don't be like this guys. We have jobs too. Just don't invite us)," Severo wrote.
"And UP SPECA, I don't think it's the best interest of a communication students' org to do such things," Severo said, adding that he already decided to cancel the invitation.
