BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay said the biggest challenge confronting revenuers now is collecting the right taxes from business operators, who are also facing great financial  difficulties due to the health crisis.

The BIR chief said he has instructed regional directors and district officers to sit down with taxpayers and discuss how much they should remit to the government.

Dulay likened the compromise settlement of deficiency taxes to the current tax amnesty programs, which offer big discounts when it comes to settling the basic assessment only, scrapping the interest and surcharges.

These are the estate tax amnesty, amnesty on delinquencies, and the Voluntary Assessment and Payment Program.

Dulay offered the amicable settlement of back accounts during the virtual launch of the bureau's 2021 tax collection campaign, which intends to raise at least P2 trillion for the government.
