Husband hammers wife to death in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – Jealousy reportedly drove an alcoholic man to bludgeon his wife to death using a hammer Tuesday, February 16, in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Saler Laurente who, according to his children, has not eaten for five days. The victim meanwhile was identified as Delbeth Laurente, 40.

Kabankalan City Police Station deputy police chief Lt. Joemel Salarda said the couple was sleeping in their place when the suspect woke up and did the gruesome crime.

Laurente immediately left their place together with his five children and went to his sibling’s house where he eventually admitted to murdering his wife.

Salarda said the suspect, who owned up to the crime, has been physically abusing his wife and accused her of having an affair with a man.

The suspect is now locked up and will be facing parricide charges.
