Advertisements, posters of potential candidates not violations - Comelec
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said advertisements or posters of potential candidates are not violations because it is not election period.

The poll official said this in her Twitter account Wednesday, Feb.17.
"Will revisit the rules," Guanzon said.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, meantime, has this to say regarding the tarpaulins and posters promoting Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who is being urged by her supporters to run for president in the May 2022 polls.
"Those tarpaulins do seek to promote the electoral win of Mayor Duterte, but she herself isn’t a candidate yet," he said in an interview.
"This means that although many would consider it a form of campaigning it would actually fall short of the legal definition of campaigning, let alone premature campaigning," Jimenez added.
"Therefore, there appears to be no violation of election laws or campaign rules," he said.
Jimenez said anyone, in fact, can do the same thing.
Under existing laws, those who filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) will only become candidates at the start of the campaign period.
The Comelec set the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy for the May 2022 polls from Oct. 1 to 8, 2021, while the campaign period is from Feb. 8 to May 7, 2022.
