Today, February 16, is Shrove Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
"Shrove” is the past tense of the English verb “shrive” which means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by way of confession and doing penance.
Traditionally, the faithful go to confession on this day to prepare for the Lenten Season.
During this day, parishes also hold the rite of the burning of old palms or "Silab-Sala."
The ashes from this "Silab-Sala" will be used for the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday.
