Village chief slain in Camarines Norte town

LEGAZPI CITY (PNA) – A village chief in Labo, Camarines Norte was shot and killed at his residence by three unidentified gunmen on Monday morning, a police report said.

Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-5 (PRO-5) spokesperson, identified the victim as Geoffrey Castillo, 58, of Barangay Macogon.
 
The report said the victim and his wife were sleeping when the gunmen knocked on their house's door, pretending to be villagers seeking assistance at around 12:30 a.m.
 
"The victim upon opening the door, one of the attackers armed with a handgun fired several shots and hit the victim in different parts of his body," Calubaquib said.
 
The suspects fled after the attack. The victim died while being rushed to the Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital in Daet town.
 
Police investigators are still determining the identities of the suspects and the motive of the killing.
