Today, Feb. 15, is a day celebrated by single people.
Single Awareness Day serves as a complement to Valentine's Day for people who are not married or not in a romantic relationship.

According to the National Today, in 2001, American student Dustin Barnes created a day for his friends to enjoy their singledom.Â
Barnes thought he and his friends could enjoy the sale of sweets and love-themed items, which often comes after Valentine's Day.
He carried on the tradition from his high school to Mississippi State University, where the holiday gained popularity.Â
Single Awareness Day was legitimately copyrighted in 2005 as a day to "let singles have celebrations, get-togethers, and to exchange gift with their single friends."
