San Juan City records most number of COVID-19 vaccination registrants in NCR

San Juan City Mayor Francisco Zamora announced on Monday that the city of San Juan now has 24,559 COVID-19 vaccination registrants, the highest in the National Capital Region.

"We were informed by the DOH (Department of Health) that we are now ranked number one in Metro Manila in terms of the number of registrants. I believe that by volunteering, it shows people that the vaccine process can be trusted, that the mayor himself will undergo the process," Zamora said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).

The mayor said the local government is aiming to inoculate 85,000 San Juan City residents, enough to trigger herd immunity. Herd immunity is where a virus can no longer spread easily because enough people are already immune to it.

"Based on the 2015 census, we have 122,000 constituents. This is the general population based on a 2015 census. If we compute that at 70 percent, we are targeting around 85,400 people, and right now, we are at 28.76 percent already," Zamora said.

"Once the vaccine rolls out, I am very optimistic that this number will increase," he added.

Zamora had previously said that the city has already procured 100,000 doses from vaccine maker AstraZeneca, reserved 10,000 doses from Moderna, and is expecting to receive more jabs from the national government such as Pfizer.

The city government was lauded by the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team during its visit last February 10 for its comprehensive and efficient vaccination plan, including its initiatives in keeping constituents informed about the virus and the vaccines.
