Cainglet named first-ever pick of WNBL Draft while performing an operation

Glutagence made Fille Claudine Cainglet the first-ever pick of the Women’s National Basketball League Draft which was held virtually Saturday night, Feb. 13.

The 32-year-old Cainglet, a doctor by profession, was performing an operation at UERM Hospital when the Glow Boosters selected her first in the draft proceedings of the country’s first-ever women’s professional cage league.

Cainglet, sister of former Ateneo volleyball star Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, played for University of the Philippines from 2006-2010 before focusing on becoming a doctor.

Now, she will get a chance to resume her basketball career by way of the upstart WNBL.

Glutagence, which also owned the second and third overall picks, selected Camille Claro and Khate Castillo, a member of the Gilas Pilipinas squad that won the gold in the women’s basketball competitions of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Also taken by the Glow Boosters were Camille Sambille, April Lualhati, Nic Cancio, Carol Sangalang, Raiza Palmera-Dy, Nicky Garcia, Samantha Tan, Ays Hufanda and Camille Ramos.

STAN Quezon chose Dianne Ventura, Kat Araja, Jo Razalo, Angelica De Austria, Karla Manuel, Nikka Tupaz, Jade Valenzuela, Marika Iida, Veronica Lio, and Bienca Ramos while Pacific Water selected Snow Penaranda in the third round and Monique Del Carmen in the ninth round.

The Queens also added Cara Buendia, Elaisa Adriano, Crislyn Mier, Tin Cortizano, Nef Taller, Janella Alba, and Jinky Balasta.

Paranaque, which played the inaugural WNBL season in 2019, drafted AJ Gloriani, Mary Joy Galicia, Jhenn Angeles, Vanessa Santos, Tanya De La Merced, Jenina Solis, Sthefanie Ventura, and Jaira Baarde.
