QC gov't to provide food to residents in close contact with UK variant patient

The local government of Quezon City will provide food to residents who were in close contact with the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who contracted the UK variant of COVID-19.

“The city government provides food aid to them. So all the Kapitan has to do is to request us and we will provide the necessary assistance to them.” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a virtual press conference Thursday.

She also said they can issue certificates stating that workers from Riverside in Barangay Commonwealth are asked by the government to be quarantined.

“Another way that we can help them is kunwari yung employer tine-threaten na tanggalin na sila sa trabaho kung hindi sila pumapasok, pwede pong mag issue ng certification either yung barangay or yung city to reassure the employer that the person has been asked by the government to stay quarantined and to appeal to the employer not to take him out of his job.” Belmonte said. 

 Belmonte also asked for cooperation from the residents of Riverside to avoid further transmission in case there will be positive cases in the area.

The Quezon City government announced on Thursday that residents of Riverside in Barangay Commonwealth would be tested and contact traced for COVID-19 after a 35-year-old patient, who was quarantined in the area, was found to have the UK variant of the virus.
