DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they are monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Cebu province.
“We have been in constant coordination with our DOH regional office. Binabantayan namin talaga ito (we are closely watching it)--- these specific areas that are showing an increasing number of cases. Sa Cebu, makikita ang kanilang daily attack rate at growth rate talagang tumataas (In Cebu, you can see their daily attack rate and growth rate are really rising),” said Vergeire.
Vergeire cited some of the reasons that can be attributed in the increasing number of new cases in the area.
“Mga pagtitipon nung (The gatherings during the) holidays at (and) delays in the health seeking behavior. Delays may cause further transmission of the virus. The (United Kingdom) variant might aggravate the factors. But it is not the only cause or factor in the increase. Compliance to minimum health protocols kailangan din natin tingnan (we need to also observe that),” she said.
