The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) is seeking justice for a slain Bulacan farmer, who was found hogtied inside a plastic drum from a creek in Laguna, as the latter is laid to rest Tuesday.

KMP in a Facebook post said it "vow to fight for justice" following the death of 52-year-old Rommy Torres and called to "stop killing farmers."

This came after Torres went missing in the early morning of February 3 after he was allegedly abducted when he went out of his home in Norzagaray, Bulacan to harvest bananas. KMP believed “paid goons” were behind his abduction.

On February 5, the body of Torres was recovered from a creek in Mabitac, Laguna. Police said he was hogtied and stuffed inside a plastic drum that was weighed down by a concrete. He also bore gunshot wounds in his mouth, chest, and back.

Torres, according to KMP, was among the farmers fighting a land grabbing of 75.5-hectare agricultural land in his hometown. He was also an active member of Samahang Magsasaka sa San Mateo (SAMA-SAMA), a local farmers group in his area.

"We strongly condemn this unspeakable savagery and brutality—a farmer fighting land grabbing and asserting his rights for a parcel of land was brutally killed, stuffed in a drum, and left to rot afar. Only monsters can commit this heinous crime!" said KMP chairman, Danilo Ramos, in a recent statement.
