Manila market vendors comply with pork, chicken price cap

Vendors selling pork and chicken in Manila public markets are complying with the price ceiling mandated by President Duterte, the city government reported on Tuesday.

According to the Manila Market Administration Office, vendors selling pork and chicken in Paco Market, Central Market, Dagonoy Market, Wagas Market, and Sta. Ana Market are complying with the price cap.

But vendors at Obrero Market are still not selling pork and chicken to prevent losses.

President Duterte on Feb. 1 signed Executive Order No. 124, mandating a price ceiling of P270 per kilogram for kasim and pigue, P300 per kilogram for liempo, and P160 per kilogram for dressed chicken as consumers bore the brunt of soaring pork and chicken prices.

The EO on the mandated price ceiling on selected pork and chicken products sold in Metro Manila will remain in effect for 60 days unless extended by the President.

On Monday, the first day of the EO's effectivity, several vendors declared a "pork holiday" by not selling pork and chicken.
