‘Wish ko Leni Robredo governor’: Group wants VP to run for CamSur in 2022

Are there other groups pushing for the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo as governor of Camarines Sur instead of president in the May 2022 polls?

A photo of former Camarines Sur representative Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. wearing a shirt with the words “Wish ko Leni Robredo governor” printed at the back circulated on social media.

A Facebook post, titled “Sowing Confusion via Comedy,”  by a certain Ding Velasco on Monday claimed Andaya is among those pushing for Robredo to run as Camarines Sur governor. He also tagged Dato Arroyo and Arnie Fuentebella.

Arroyo is the youngest son of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo while Fuentebella comes from a political family that supported the candidacy of President Duterte.

Andaya, on the other hand, had lost to Miguel Luis Villafuerte as governor of Camarines Sur in 2019.

“The effort of Nonoy Andaya, Dato Arroyo and Arnie Fuentebella to make it appear that its the 'statesmanship' in them that eggs them to make the rounds in Camarines Sur urging the people to ask Vice President Leni Robredo to run for Governor of Camarines Sur is certainly a comedy,” his post said.

It baffles Velasco why these three will suddenly support Robredo’s supposed bid for governorship when they have never been allied with the Robredos or their Liberal Party group in Camarines Sur, their hometown.

Velaso quoted Camarines Sur 3rd District Rep. Gabriel Bordado, a close friend of late Interior secretary and vice president’s husband Jesse Robredo, who said that “Sila-sila lang naman yan (That’s just them). The people of Cam Sur are certainly proud of Leni as our Vice President and would be prouder if VP Leni becomes President.”

“So why are these three stooges making fools of themselves making it appear that the people of Cam Sur would like VP Leni to run as Cam Sur Governor in 2022?” Velasco asked.

There were earlier reports that Robredo is leaning toward running as governor of her home province of Camarines Sur despite calls for her to run as president next year. The vice president, however, remained mum about her plans.

Instead, she’s seemingly amused as to why her critics keep on speculating about her political plans when she’s been lagging in surveys? Instead, it was Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, as well as Senators Grace Poe and Manny Pacquiao, who have been topping the surveys.

Harvey Keh, lead convenor of the Kaya Natin! Movement, which was co-founded by Mayor Jesse, had this to say upon learning about the different groups pushing for Robredo to run as president and Camarines Sur governor next year.

“Whatever she decides to do for 2022, I will wholeheartedly support it. Let's all trust that she will make the right decision,” Keh said in Twitter post with hashtag #Robredo2022.
