BACOLOD CITY – A former policeman listed as one of the country’s most wanted persons was arrested in Barangay 1 Poblacion, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental  Sunday.

In a statement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the suspect as Anecio Lapara Jr., who was accused for robbery, robbery in band, and illegal possession of firearms.

Lapara’s apprehension was a product of joint operations conducted by the national and local police units.

According to the PNP, Lapara escaped from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ormoc City while awaiting trial for his criminal cases.

Lapara was a member of the Philippine Constabulary Class 1988 and was absorbed in the PNP in 1991 but was separated from the service in 1999.

He reportedly led a criminal gang operating in Regions 7 and 8, the PNP said.

PNP chief Police Gen. Debold Sinas, in a statement, said the PNP remains determined to put behind bars all police scalawags as part of their relentless internal cleansing program.
